Music is important to life at Trewirgie Junior School. Not only is music an important way of expressing yourself and developing a sense of togetherness it also supports children’s wider learning and emotional development.
Music is a unique way of communicating that can inspire and motivate children. It is also a vehicle for personal expression and forms an important part in the personal development of children.
Music is a window into different cultures, traditions and historical periods, and so the teaching and learning of music enables children to better understand the world they live in. It also plays an important part in helping children feel part of a community. Through our music curriculum we provide opportunities for all children to create, play, perform and enjoy music. Through these they develop the skills to appreciate a wide variety of musical forms and key composers, and to develop a critical understanding of music that informs their responses .
Alongside the music curriculum the school also has wider extracurricular opportunities such as peripatetic music lessons, singing in the community, performances at key celebrations throughout the year and at venues such as the Hall for Cornwall and Wembley Arena. As of September 2023, all children will have the opportunity to learn a brass instrument through the First Access scheme for 1 term.
