Music is important to life at Trewirgie Junior School. Not only is music an important way of expressing yourself and developing a sense of togetherness it also supports children’s wider learning and emotional development.

Music is a unique way of communicating that can inspire and motivate children. It is also a vehicle for personal expression and forms an important part in the personal development of children.

Music reflects the culture and society we live in, and so the teaching and learning of music enables children to better understand the world they live in. It also plays an important part in helping children feel part of a community. Through our music curriculum we provide opportunities for all children to create, play, perform and enjoy music. The music curriculum is an integral part of the children’s termly topics. Through these they develop the skills to appreciate a wide variety of musical forms, and to begin to make judgements about the quality of music.

Alongside the music curriculum the school also has wider extracurricular opportunities such as, being part a SAMBA Band club, a choir and an orchestra. In addition to this all Year 3 children learn to play a brass instrument.
