Inclusion and equality of opportunity
At Trewirgie Junior School we welcome our duties under the Equality Act 2010. The school’s general duties, with regards to equality are:

- Fostering good relationships.
- Advancing equality of opportunity.
There are the nine protected characteristics under the Equality Act. We will not discriminate against, harass or victimise any pupil, prospective pupil, or other member of the school community because of their:
- Age.
- Gender.
- Race.
- Disability.
- Religion or belief.
- Sexual orientation.
- Gender reassignment.
- Pregnancy or maternity.
- Marriage and civil partnership.
Trewirgie Junior School aims to promote pupils’ spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development, with special emphasis on promoting equality, diversity and eradicating prejudicial incidents for children and staff. Our school is committed to not only eliminating discrimination, but also increasing understanding and appreciation for diversity.
Below are a few examples of the school's approach to inclusion and equality of opportunity.
PACE is a way of thinking, feeling, communicating and behaving that aims to make the child feel safe. It is done by communicating the four elements of PACE together flexibly, not as a step by step process. This approach is used by our Wellbeing Team and EAAs with children. |

At Trewirgie Juniors we support children to become resilient individuals, in partnership with parents and carers. Resilient children are able to bounce back from these setbacks. This resilience develops when they experience challenges and learn how to deal with these positively. |
As a Rights Respecting Gold School, children learn about a range of the articles linked to their termly topics. Below is an example of one. Article 22 (refugee children) |
During Year 6 the children study a topic, Is lie fair, where they explore our human rights and the importance of acceptance and celebration of difference and diversity. |
