Art
Art and Design are vitally important to the development of a child's learning. Through Art and Design they can begin to explore their world and respond to it in unique and creative ways. Art and Design stimulates creativity and imagination. It provides visual, tactile and sensory experiences and a unique way of understanding and responding to the world.
Through our Art and Design curriculum children will develop a range of drawing, painting and 3D skills that they will build on throughout their journey of the school.
As a school we have made the conscious decision to focus the art experiences on three core aspects: Drawing, Painting and 3D. This does not exclude or prevent the children being able to have experience of other aspects of art i.e. printing. However, this approach enables each term to have a clear art focus and through this, develop clear art progression.
Each term the children focus on one aspect of Art. They are taught the key knowledge and vocabulary. Following this the children have time to experiment and explore, a vital part of the development of Art. From here, the children are given a challenge. This is where they are able to put into place, use, apply and interpret their learning in a way that is unique to them.
The Art curriculum is also an important outlet for children’s emotions and as such forms part of developing good positive mental health. It supports the development of approaches and strategies for dealing with and processing their feelings.
